Thanks to all who took part or supported the club fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Society. The Coffee Morning & Golf Classic was a great success with special thanks to Captains Sandra McCrann & Michael Rush.

Best Ladies Team Liz Dwyer, Peggy Feely, Moira Egan & Tish Perry (96pts). Nearest the Pin, T Booth (Ballymote), Longest Drive, Liam Mullaney (Boyle). Thanks to Paula Cull and Drumderrig Nursing Home for their generous sponsorship of a perpetual cup and prizes.
Raffle winners were Margaret O’Mahoney (Leinster V Connaught Tickets), John Frain, Regina McLoughlin, Ann Rush, Ruth Hogg, Ailbhe Hanmore, Sean O’Dowd, Mary O’Hara, Brendan Gaffney, Marina Hughes, Lewis Shaw. On behalf of the players Liz Dwyer thanked the organisers and congratulated the club on a great weekend. Total funds raised to date were €4075.00
The Winter League prizes were presented on Sunday evening to Teams Heslin, Gaffney & McGuinn. Sean Heslin thanked Michael Rush for organising the competition and for an enjoyable three weeks of golf.
The September draw was won by Seamus & Marie Gallagher €70, runners up Claire/John Cryan & Ted Hestor €40 each. The October draw was won by Pat Conroy €70, runners up Margaret Egan & Mary McKeon €40 each. Thanks to all who took part and good luck in the November draw.
Competitions for this week are the weekly nine hole Monday – Saturday and next Sunday is an 18 Hole Par Three Competition with re-entry
The following Club AGM’s take place in November. Ladies AGM Sunday November 1st, Mens AGM Sunday November 15th & Parent Club AGM Sunday November 22nd. Notices will be sent to members via email, text or post. The November Management Committee Meeting will take place on Wednesday November 4th.
The Club heard with great sadness last week of the passing of club member & fellow golfer James Shivnan following a short illness. James is fondly remembered and will be sadly missed. We extend our sympathy to Mary, Sarah, Emma, Marie and all the Shivnan Family. As a mark of respect Club Members held a guard of honour at the funeral in Ballyfarnon. Coffee Morning/Cake Sale today for Alzheimer’s Society
A coffee morning/cake sale for the Alzheimer’s Society takes place all day today in Boyle Golf Club. The event is a joint initiative by club captains Sandra McCrann & Michael Rush and all support is appreciated. The event is part of a fundraising weekend including a golf classic which can be played Saturday, Sunday and Monday. A raffle will take place over the weekend with prizes including two tickets to Leinster V Connacht in the RDS on New Year’s Day. The Golf Club are holding a guard of honour for James Shivnan R.I.P. on this Friday at 1.30pm. We will gather at 1.15pm at Shivnan’s Bar, Ballyfarnon. If possible please wear club jumper, or blue/black jumper and dark trousers. The course will be closed all day Friday as a mark of respect.
Funeral arangements are as follows:
Reposing at Shivnan’s Funeral Home, Ballyfarnon on Thursday afternoon from 3.00 o’clock until 9.00 o’clock. Removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Ballyfarnon on Friday afternoon, arriving 1.45 o’clock, for Mass of Christian Burial at 2.00 o’clock. Interment afterwards in Kilronan Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu of flowers, if desired, to Sligo Cancer Support Centre or Mayo/ Roscommon Palliative Care Centre. House strictly private please

Well done to Team Heslin who won the winter league with a total score of 346pts. Team Gaffney were 2nd and Team McGuinn were 3rd. The weekly nine hole runs from Monday to Saturday.

Good luck to everybody taking part in the final round of the winter league. Team Heslin are currently leading however the pressure of being leader often causes teams to calve so all is still to play for. The September Club draw will take place this evening.

The second round of the winter league took place last weekend. Team Heslin are the new leaders on 235pts followed by Team Gaffney on 229pts and Team McGuinn in 3rd place on 225pts. Highlights of the second round include Gary Carty (GOY) & Eamon Perry 47pts (fourball), Michael Reid & Tommy King 44pts (fourball), Lionel Lynn 43pts (singles), Liz Dwyer 40pts (singles) and Niall Kearney & Carmel Keenan 40pts (fourball). The final round takes places next week from Thursday –Sunday. Presentation of prizes will take place on next Sunday evening, October 18th. The club are delighted to announce a funding offer of €55,000 from the Sports Capital Fund. Thanks to all who organised and supported the application. The funding will be used for a new practice area adjacent to the car part to include chipping area and driving nets, course drainage on selected holes and purchase of course machinery.

Well done to our Ladies Team who won the Roscommon Cup last weekend for the second year running. Full results were 1st Boyle, 2nd Roscommon, 3rd Strokestown. Individual winners 1st Ronnie Clarke (Strokestown), 2nd Sandra Kelly (Roscommon), Gross Hilary Collins (Carrick) 3rd Regina McLoughlin (Boyle), 4th Mary O’Gara (Roscommon). Thanks to the teams from Boyle, Carrick, Strokestown, Castlerea, Ballaghaderreen, Roscommon & Athlone who took part and thanks to all who organized the event. The winning Boyle team was Tish Perry, Liz Dwyer, Claire Cryan, Kathleen Candon, Susan O’Mahoney, Moira Egan & Regina McLoughlin.
The Winter League commenced last weekend with Team Gaffney leading on 121pts and Team Heslin in 2nd place on 119pts. Full results and placings are on the noticeboard. Round two takes place from Thursday-Sunday with all still to play for. The weekly nine hole was won by Seamus Gallagher 22pts, 2nd Padraig O’Connell 21pts, 3rd Michael Rush 20pts. The weekly nine hole can be played Monday – Sunday during the winter league, entry is €5, re-entry €3.
