Good luck to all taking part in the final round of the winter league tomorrow. Gary Carty and Michael Rush are the CURRENT leaders with a ten point gap but they can be beaten. Phrases like “they fell at the last hurdle”, “the game isn’t over till the fat lady sings”, “they calved”, “the pressure was to much” etc come to mind but this website doesn’t want to be accused of influencing the outcome so no more of that. Sandra and I played Tish and Charlie today in the final round and are pleased to announce that we won the second nine by a significant margin. Unfortunately due to press deadlines, and a shortage of space on the world wide web due to the short evenings, a full and independent report is not possible at this time.

In other news investigations continue into the latest crisis at the club “gategate” (the damage to the gatepost on the second). A number of theories are circulating. 

1. It was attacked by an angry golfer who hit is with their fifth shot.
2. It was removed to make way for Ted’s Buggy although we can discount this theory as it would have necessitated the removal of the post on the other side which hasn’t happened (yet)
3. It was mistaken for a tree and cut down

The second round of the winter league took place last weekend with Gary Carty and Michael Rush leading on 89pts. There are three teams in joint second on 79pts, Sean Heslin and Ted Hestor, Michael Simon and Paddy McLoughlin and Terry Canning & Michael Bannon. Top scores last Sunday were Gary Carty and Michael Rush 43pts, Gerry Carty and Eamon Perry 42pts and SANDRA MCCRANN AND MICHAEL GILMARTIN 41pts. The weekly was won by Charlie O’Donnell with 25pts, 2nd Michael Rush 23pts. Charlie O’Donnell moves to top of the leader board with 107pts. Competitions this week are the weekly nine hole Monday to Sunday and the final round of the winter league Thursday to Sunday

Date for your diary is the Club Fundraiser on the October Bank Holiday weekend. (Saturday, Sunday & Monday) Format will be a three ball shambles.

There was a great turnout for the club outing to New Forest last Saturday with 38 people taking part. Mens Winners were 1st Donal Smith, 2nd Lorcan Egan, 3rd John McGuinn. Ladies Winners 1st Bernie O’Donnell, 2nd Peggy Feely, 3rd Moira Egan. Thanks to Michael Rush for organising and sponsoring first prize and thanks to all who travelled and took part.

There will be a Club EGM on Sunday November 9th. The AGM of the Ladies and Mens Club will take place on the same day. Details will be placed on the noticeboard and notices will be sent to Members

The Winter League commenced last weekend with Gary Carty and Michael Rush leading the way on 46pts. Two teams Sean Heslin and Ted Hestor and Michael Simon and Paddy McLoughlin are joint second on 43pts. There are also two teams in joint last but neither Charlie O’Donnell or Michael Gilmartin wished to have their names published. In an interview for this website last years leader after the first round Charlie O’Donnell was asked to explain the loss of form this year. Thirty minutes later and still awaiting an answer the interview ended as the interviewer had fallen asleep.

Last week’s nine hole was won by Michael Reid with 23pts, 2nd Michael Gilmartin 23pts. Joint top of the leader board after four weeks are Michael Reid and Charlie O’Donnell both on 82pts.

Competitions for this week are the second round of the Winter League which can be played from Thursday to Sunday. Format will be a Fourball Betterball. The weekly nine hole can be played Monday – Sunday, entry is €5, re-entry €3.

Well done to our Ladies who won the Roscommon Cup in Ballaghadereen last weekend. The team were Tish Perry, Liz Dwyer, Moira Egan, Kathleen Candon, Susan O’Mahoney, Mary O’Hara and Aisling Gaughran

The club outing to New Forest will take place next Saturday October 11th, details on club noticeboard. A option to travel by luxury coach with tour guide included is available, please see noticeboard for details.

Finally, well done to our two Michaels, (Rush & Simon) on their hole in one’s last week, both on Thursday. Personally I don’t understand all the fuss, James and I had two triple bogies on the 4th last Sunday and we didn’t go round boasting about it.
