Well done to Charlie O’Donnell who won the weekly nine hole with 23pts after a prolonged countback with Paddy McLoughlin who also had 23pts.

Both had the same last six and the same last three, it was only when they went hole by hole that Charlie won. I think it would have been quicker, and more interesting, for Paddy and Charlie to have had a duel on the putting green, (at dawn) We could sell ringside seats to club members. Just an idea in case it comes up again.

The shambles continues tomorrow, teams of three. . Re-entry is only €5 for anyone who has played already.

Well done to the winners of the Winter League, Michael Simon and Paddy McLoughlin who finished with 155pts. Gary Carty and Michael Rush who lead the way for the first two rounds were 2nd with 153pts and Michael Reid and Lionel Lynn came 3rd with 147pts. Daily prize winners were Sean Heslin and Ted Hestor, Gerry Carty and Eamon Perry, and Charlie O’Donnell and Tish Perry. Thanks for all who took part and special thanks to Michael Rush for organising.

The weekly nine hole was won by Owen Garvin 22pts, 2nd James Shivnan 21pts.

Next weekends is a club fundraiser taking place and can be played Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Monday. Format will be a three ball “Shambles”, entry is €15 per person with a €5 re-entry. Full details on noticeboard. The weekly nine hole runs from Monday to Saturday.“

In course news the 16th teebox is being extended and the bunkers are out of play. They will be re-sanded in new year.

Date for your diary is the Club EGM on Sunday November 9th. The AGM’s of the Ladies and Mens Club takes place on the same day. Notice of meetings have been sent to members and are posted on the club noticeboard. The AGM of the parent club takes place on Sunday December 7th.

And finally, if you thought reports of a new political party in todays newspapers was big news, even bigger news is the possible creation of a new club blog by a person unknown. This website has been made aware of a significant investor within the club who is interested in providing funding for a second blog. This website assures it followers that it will continue to offer a “independent and balanced” view of club affairs and to the person unknown, we know where you live and its only a short drive to Tawnytaskin !!

Good luck to all taking part in the final round of the winter league tomorrow. Gary Carty and Michael Rush are the CURRENT leaders with a ten point gap but they can be beaten. Phrases like “they fell at the last hurdle”, “the game isn’t over till the fat lady sings”, “they calved”, “the pressure was to much” etc come to mind but this website doesn’t want to be accused of influencing the outcome so no more of that. Sandra and I played Tish and Charlie today in the final round and are pleased to announce that we won the second nine by a significant margin. Unfortunately due to press deadlines, and a shortage of space on the world wide web due to the short evenings, a full and independent report is not possible at this time.

In other news investigations continue into the latest crisis at the club “gategate” (the damage to the gatepost on the second). A number of theories are circulating.

  1. It was attacked by an angry golfer who hit is with their fifth shot.
  2. It was removed to make way for Ted’s Buggy although we can discount this theory as it would have necessitated the removal of the post on the other side which hasn’t happened (yet)
  3. It was mistaken for a tree and cut down
