Last Sunday saw the Captain’s Drive In take place, with a strong turnout showing their support. The first two tee shots were struck by Ross Andrew and Mary O’Hara, the latter deputising for Lady Captain Tish Perry. The winners of the scramble that followed were Terry Canning, Liz Dwyer & Tommy King. Pipped into second was the quartet of Gary Carty, Michael Simon, Pat Conroy & Marie Hanmore-Cawley. In third position were Jim Mooney, Michael Gilmartin and Lewis Shaw. Also, thanks to Jim Mooney for providing his photography service for the day.

At the presentation that evening, prizes were also presented to the winners of competitions for the previous few weeks. The monthly club draws for December, January and February followed. Respectively, first prizes went to Liam Whyte, Padraig O’Connell, and Harry & Marie Wynne. Runners up were Ted Hestor, Mary O’Hara, Sean Heslin, Harry & Marie Wynne, Claire & John Cryan, and Jimmy & Pauline Doyle.

Another important piece of business taken care of was the draw for the Spring League. The format for the first round is a scramble and can be played anytime from Friday 4th to Sunday March 6th inclusive. The draw can be viewed on the club website.

Last week’s 9 hole open competition was won by Liam Mullaney with 22 pts. Second was Patrick Egan with 21 pts. This week it can be played from Monday through to Sunday.

The men’s and ladies’ committee meetings will take place on Wednesday evening March 2nd at 8.30pm. Afterwards, the club management meeting will be held. The attendance of the relevant personnel is requested.

Last Sunday’s 18 hole stableford was won by Sean Heslin, 39 pts; 2nd Patrick Egan, 38 pts; Gross Gary Carty, 30 pts (gross score) & 3rd was Charlie O’Donnell 36 pts.
Last week’s weekly 9 hole open competition was won by Tommy King, 21 pts; 2nd Charlie O’Donnell, 20 pts. The weekly open competition continues this week, play any day Mon- Sat.
This upcoming Sunday will mark the ceremonial start to the golfing year. The Captain’s Drive In is always a good social occasion and the club encourages all members to support. The draw for the scramble will take place at 1pm and commence with a shotgun start at 1.30pm. We wish Captains Ross Andrew & Tish Perry every success for their year.
Also, a reminder that the draw for the Spring League will take place on Sunday evening next. Anyone who wishes to play can enter their name on the sign up sheet on the club noticeboard. It begins on the first weekend of March.
Finally, for anyone who buys the Irish Independent on Tuesdays, the club’s golf results will be published in the golf notes section. So its a good opportunity for winners to have their name in a national newspaper!

Mother Nature has remained against us in recent times with no on course action to report. Realistically, it may be another two weeks at least before the course is fit for play.

Letters regarding membership subscriptions for the year will be issued via post or email in the coming week. The club encourages members to submit their fees as early as possible although we realise it can be a busy time of year financially for people. To aid with this there are flexible payment plans in place to ease any strain. Contact Michael at info@boylegolfclub.com for more details.

An application has been submitted to the CGI, the national body responsible for promoting golf participation, in relation to assistance in holding a Get into Golf Programme for 2016. This includes a 5 week school’s programme and also golf classes for adults. Subject to its acceptance, we will be seeking a number of members to help in various ways.

The club wishes to extend its sympathies to the Lavin families on the recent passing of Florence. Ar dheis dé go raibh a hanam.
